Physical Education Mr. Anthony Colavecchio The primary goal of physical education at Elmer Thienes-Mary Hall Elementary School is to have our student athletes practice proper sportsmanship. Respect, responsibility and cooperation are the key words we use in building good sportsmanship. We strive to teach respect for ourselves and for others. Students are taught to be responsible for their actions and cooperate with classmates and teachers. As we move forward with our physical education program, there will be a greater emphasis on wellness and life-long fitness plans. The first day of class we discuss safety rules, sportsmanship and class expectations. We also discuss the importance of proper attire in gym, and most of all to have "FUN". In preparation for the Connecticut Mastery Test, students practice for the one mile run , sit and reach, curl ups and push ups. Each year 4th grade and 6th grade students have their scores sent to the Connecticut State Department of Education. |
